The Great Mississippi River

For Jim and Huck the Mississippi River is a symbol of Freedom. On their raft alone on the river they are in charge. They do not have to answer to anyone. For Jim, it's getting closer to the free states, and for Huck, it's getting further away from his abusive drunken dad but as they progress down the river, which once seemed a paradise and a source of freedom, it becomes a short-term escape that pushes Huck and Jim even further toward danger and destruction.
