pourquoi?
I wonder why Huck doesnt tell the lady that he is the one staying on the island instead of jim. When she finds out that "she" is really a "he" Huck tells her he is on his own and she tells him of Jim, the runaway slave who murdered Huck Finn. Also, she tells huck that her husband is going to the island to catch Jim. Why doesnt huck just tell her that it is he who is staying there?

That is a good question. I would imagine that if he would have told the woman that he was staying on the island that her husband would have called off his search of the island. He and Jim would be safe there because everybody would think it was the "girl" staying there and not them. I think Mark Twain did not do this because it would have taken away all the excitement that happens later on in the book.
ReplyDeleteHe never tells her that Jim is staying on the island. But she says that there is a runaway slave and that they heard he was over on the island so thats why her husband goes over there.
